A nation chooses
In the UN-run referendum, 78.5% of Timorese vote for independence from Indonesian occupation.
- 2002
Independence
On 20 May, Timor-Leste becomes an independent state — and soon the 191st member of the United Nations.
- 2006
The Plaza opens
We open our doors on Rua 30 de Agosto, in the heart of the capital. Our first year in business.

Great Wall
We open our own Chinese restaurant, bringing authentic Cantonese cooking to Dili.

Many of our guests are here for business, diplomacy or development work.
